These guides cover Class A, B and C work permits, residence permits, visas, and the split between mainland and Zanzibar labour routes. They are for investors and expatriate staff who need lawful presence, not just a registered company.
Primary desk: work and residence permit support
The definitive guide to the Tanzania business visa: USD 250 for up to 90 days, the activities it covers and does not, the eVisa process, exempt and referral nationals, the new travel insurance, penalties, Zanzibar and a worked example.
Who qualifies for Class C residence in Tanzania: retirees, researchers, missionaries, volunteers, NGO staff and others, with every code's fee, the work permit question, renewal and Zanzibar.
The definitive guide to the Zanzibar work permit: the 2005 Employment Act, long and short-term permits, the 10% ZIPA quota, the Union residence permit, fees with register IDs and a Mainland comparison.
How a foreign employee gets Class B residence in Tanzania: the B codes, the Labour Commissioner work permit first, fees with register IDs, renewal, termination and Zanzibar.
How a foreign resident's spouse and children hold status in Tanzania: dependant pass or listing on the permit, fees with register IDs, documents, school, work and expiry.
Class A is the investor's residence permit. It follows a Class A work permit, costs USD 3,000 for most investors filed directly, and has four sub-classes with different fees.
Mainland employees get at least 28 consecutive days of paid annual leave a year under Cap. 366 s.31, with sick, maternity, paternity and compassionate leave on a 36-month cycle and leave pay taxed through payroll.
GN 428 of 2023 split the old special pass in two: an EAC-only special pass and an interim pass for everyone else. Neither replaces a work permit for short-term work.
Renew a Mainland work permit at least 60 days before expiry, pay the class fee again and renew the residence permit in the same cycle, within an eight-year limit.
Payroll, cameras and biometrics are personal data. The basis has to be Tanzanian.

Consultation, selection and terminal pay settled before a single notice is served.
Three duties, not one: registration, the 0.5% contribution, and the accident report nobody filed.
