Tanzania Investor Invitation Letters Are Not A Visa

Is an investor invitation letter a visa? No. Eligible invitation-letter support on Zatra setup packages is a professional letter for a stated business visit. It is not a visa, residence permit, work permit or a promise that Immigration will admit the traveller. Confirm the live visa class on the Immigration portal before you book flights.
A Zatra invitation letter is a private document for a visit file. It is not a visa, not a work permit and not an Immigration decision. As of 22 August 2026. The competent mission or e-visa portal still decides entry. Visitors entering Mainland Tanzania from 1 October 2026 also need inbound travel insurance under GN 256 of 2026.
Eligible invitation-letter support appears on Standard and Fast Track professional scope. It remains a letter. Flights, visas, permits and border decisions sit with Immigration. Zatra professional fees are published on pricing (Standard Business Setup USD 999; Fast Track Business Setup USD 1,500; Executive Investor & Regulated Setup from USD 2,500. Multi-Agency Mandates Desk from USD 12,500. Advisory: Senior Advisory Session USD 49; Market-Entry Assessment from USD 199; Onsite Supplier or Asset Verification from USD 499; Custom Mandates scoped after assessment). BRELA, TRA, licence, bank, notary and sector-permit charges are third-party and billed separately.
What this page decides
This page decides the instrument class: support letter versus entry permission. It is not a visa-class selector.
Fix four things before you request a letter: passport biographics, the purpose of the visit in one sentence, the host entity’s registration status, and the visa class you actually intend to apply for. A letter written against a work visit that later files as tourism is a mismatch the border can see.
Instrument map
| Instrument | What it is | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Invitation letter | Host statement for a stated visit | Admission, a work permit, or a residence permit |
| Visa / entry pass | Immigration permission to enter as that class | A right to work or reside long-term |
| Work / residence permit | Status overlay after or beside formation | A substitute for BRELA registration |
Typical sequence
- Register or identify the host entity: A letter from an unformed company is a weak file.
- Choose the live visa class: On the Immigration portal, not from a blog table.
- Issue the letter only if eligible: Names, passport numbers and dates must match the application.
- File the visa or permit: Official fees are paid to Immigration, not into the Zatra package.
- Travel only on the issued permission: The letter travels with the passport; it does not replace the sticker or e-visa.
What this process does not include
- A guaranteed visa, work permit or residence permit
- Airport facilitation or “meet and greet” as a published product
- Immigration official charges
For permit sequencing see work and residence permits and the work-permit investor route. Executive is the professional route when agreed permit filings are in scope, not because the owner is foreign.
Competent institutions (verify live)
Immigration decides admission and status. Zatra’s letter is a host statement. Immigration Services Department and the e-services portal publish the live visa and permit classes. BRELA records the host company; it does not stamp passports. TISEZA investment registration is not an entry permission.
| Institution | What it actually controls | What it does not replace |
|---|---|---|
| Immigration | Visa class, entry, work and residence status | Company registration |
| BRELA | Whether the host entity exists on the mainland register | A visa |
| TISEZA | Investment-registration / land-for-investment routes where they apply | Admission at the airport |
Documents the letter file usually needs
- Passport bio page that matches the draft letter character-for-character
- Host company extract or live ORS status so the letter is not written from an unformed vehicle
- One-sentence purpose of visit that matches the visa class you will actually file
- Intended dates that do not contradict the permit overlay if work is the real purpose
Mainland vs Zanzibar
Entry to the United Republic is an Immigration question. Operating in Zanzibar still needs BPRA / ZIPA mapping for the company. Do not treat a mainland invitation letter as a Zanzibar work permission.
Verify before you book flights
Read the live class on the Immigration portal before you pay an airline. Eligible invitation-letter support on Standard or Fast Track is professional coordination, not a border decision. Agreed work or residence filings sit on Executive as professional support; official charges stay separate. Approvals are not guaranteed.
Frequently asked questions
Does Standard include an invitation letter?
Eligible investor invitation-letter support is in the Standard professional scope. Eligibility depends on the file. It is not a visa guarantee.
Can I work in Tanzania on the letter alone?
No. Work and residence status are separate Immigration overlays. Sequence them with company registration: they do not replace formation.
Will the letter get me through the airport?
Admission is an Immigration decision. Carry the visa or permit class the portal actually issued.
Do you issue work permits with the letter?
Work and residence permit applications sit on Executive (from USD 2,500) as professional support for agreed filings. Official Immigration charges stay separate. Outcomes are not guaranteed.
Is TISEZA registration a visa?
No. TISEZA is an investment-registration route. It does not replace Immigration.
Foreign ownership: do I need Executive for the letter?
No. Foreign ownership alone does not require Executive. Invitation-letter support can sit on Standard or Fast Track where eligible.
