Directory of Business Consulting and Audit Firms in Tanzania

This directory exists because people search for a list of consulting and audit firms in Tanzania — large, medium and small. It is organised by focus, not by rank. Every competitor mention is factual and non-disparaging. We do not compare quality, we do not quote other firms’ fees, and we do not claim completeness. Membership of a network and a public Tanzania office are the bar for being named in the large-firm section. Boutique firms are described as a class, with Zatra identified only as one Dar es Salaam setup desk.

Use this list to shortlist. Then apply the choosing checklist (fee split, named contact, timeline honesty, scope, credentials). A famous logo that fails the checklist is still the wrong hire for a small setup file; a boutique that fails it is also the wrong hire.

How this directory is organised

• Large audit / advisory networks with public Tanzania practices — typically statutory audit, tax, and large-corporate advisory.
• Mid-sized and regional firms — audit and advisory with a smaller footprint; named only where a Tanzania presence is publicly established.
• Boutique and specialist desks — company setup, licensing, tax filing, investment sequencing. Described as a class; not an exhaustive local phone book.

Licensing is not uniform. Auditors and practising accountants are in a different professional regime from a company that files BRELA forms. “Consulting firm” is not a single licence. Ask each firm which regime they actually sit in.

Large audit and advisory networks operating in Tanzania

The following international networks maintain publicly described Tanzania or East Africa practices that include Dar es Salaam. Descriptions are about typical network focus — audit, assurance, tax, consulting — not about any file we have seen, and not about quality.

• PwC Tanzania. Part of the PwC network. Publicly positioned for audit and assurance, tax, and advisory services to corporates and institutions.
• Deloitte Tanzania / East Africa. Deloitte member firm presence serving audit, tax and consulting lines typical of the network.
• KPMG Tanzania. KPMG member firm presence; audit, tax and advisory as the network is generally organised.
• EY Tanzania. EY member firm presence; assurance, tax, strategy and transactions advisory as the network is generally organised.

These firms are built for assurance, large reporting, and institutional advisory. They are a rational shortlist for a group that needs a statutory audit or a multi-country tax function. They are not automatically the right first call for a two-shareholder company that only needs BRELA and a TIN — that job is often a boutique setup desk. That is a fit statement, not a quality ranking.

Mid-sized and regional audit / advisory firms

Other international and regional networks also operate in Tanzania, including firms commonly grouped with second-tier audit networks (for example BDO and Grant Thornton, which publicly describe Tanzania offices). Their mix is typically audit, tax and advisory at a different scale to the four names above. Confirm the live office, the engaging entity, and the service line on their own sites before you treat a network brand as a local counter. We do not list every mid-sized Tanzanian partnership here — that list changes and we will not invent names we have not verified for this page.

Boutique consultancies, grouped by specialty

Below the audit networks sits a large layer of Tanzanian and Dar es Salaam boutiques. They are not one market. Group them by job:

• Company setup and licensing desks. BRELA, ordinary licences, sometimes bank-readiness. Fit for market entry. Weak if you needed a statutory audit.
• Tax filing desks. TRA returns and correspondence. Fit when the company exists. Weak as the only hire for a company that does not.
• Investment and sector desks. TISEZA, mining, agriculture, land. Fit when the activity is classified. Weak if they cannot name the regulator.

4. Confirm live — Office, engaging entity, and whether they still offer that line. Directories go stale; portals and doors do not if you check them.
